A person has legal rights and responsibilities
In law, person denotes two categories of legal person:
- Natural Person
- Artificial Persons
The Corporation
A corporation is an artificial person recognised in law as a separate legal
entity provided the legal formalities for its creation have been followed.
A incorporated corporation must be distinguished from an unincorporated association.
There are four categories to consider.
A corporation has limited legal capacity and a legal identity separate from
the natural persons connected with it.
Corporation Sole
An official position filled by one person
e.g. Treasury Solicitor
Chartered Corporations
Usually charities
Statutory Corporations
Formed by Special Act of Parliament - little used now
Registered Companies
Under Companies Act 1985 is usual method of incorporating a commercial concern
