Staff Selection

This section is not not completed.

It will explore recruitment processes in a de-regulated labour market in which the employer seeks "'flexible staff" who can be hired in more flexible - try me and see - ways. It will also cover job sharing, the recruitment of part-timers and casuals.

Young people and the older unemployed may offer themselves to an employer for "work experience" or "voluntary work". Such attachments mean working for free - but at least they get into the work environment, become known, have the chance to contribute and gain continuity in employmnet, the chance to build self-esteem and gain recognition and re-establish the toughness needed by work routines. Decision-makers in the workplace get to know their competencies/abilities and may be inclined to offer a post.

However the vulnerable volunteer may be exploited as nothing comes of the attachment.
