The Selection Decision
The selection prescription now moves to the decision stage. After all the interviews, the selector or panel members decide to whom an offer will be made.
The selection prescription would suggest that the decision is made by the simple process of matching what is wanted (job description and personnel specification) against what is offered (information about individual candidates) and deciding on where the best match lies.
The ideal has it that a pre-mature decision has not been made during the interview itself. Nor have we decided on individual applicants between interviews as this pre-empts the decisions of later interviews of other canbidates.
Reference Corroboration
When the decision is made there will be some corroboration via taking up references of key facts revealed by the applicant.
Customarily, applicants do not wish their current employers to know of their attempts to find other employment, so they ask for the proceedings to be kept confidential. In that case the corroboration can only take place after the offer has been made.
