A User-friendly Place
Get to know the library and librarians especially the nooks and crannies where the texts you need are hidden. Know where Business, management and accounting books are located and other disciplines too: economics, law, industrial relations, maths and statistics, organisation theory/sociology and also psychology. A range of sources is available in the Library, and guides are available for all computerised datasets [databases]. Help is available at all times from the Library Enquiry point.Book-lists and Journals
Background reading is vital. Most tutors provide reading lists. If they do not - ask for one!Reading the newspapers such as the Times, Telegraph, Independent and journals such as Management Today, Personnel Management, Industrial Relations Review and Report, the Economist, Marketing, Bank reviews and computing journals. These will expose you to up-to-date issues and examples of Business and IT practice needed for assignments and comparative analysis.
There is not enough time to read everything. But you are expected to undertake good literature searches. Some texts may be highlighted as essential with others recommended as background or for penetration of the subject.

Big Books
In the Osterley library A4 size are stored separately. Browse regularly to elicit where alternative texts are. Identify the reference texts you need and use them. Do the same with journals.Use the reference books, trade directories and abstract facilities.
If a text is in great demand and you have it on loan - READ and RETURN within 24-hours. HOARDERS beware!
Times 100 Companies

There is a good collection of Open University course materials in the library some of which are relevant to Business and Finance.Videos

Learn how to use
- the Library catalogues early on in your course.
- discover the resources available from datasets and Electronic Journals (Intranet only).
There are CD-ROM or micro-fiche facilities for back-copies of the Times, Financial Times and Sunday Times. The Business pages of these provide excellent source material.
Reservations and Inter-Library Loans
If the text you need is out on issue - REQUEST it. Do this early! An inter-library loan service is also available for research projects for which there is a library charge. Give the library sufficient time to secure the loan.
